The Goldring bristle dorsal fish lives in deep lagoons and outside reefs, to a depth of 45 meters. Young fishes live as loners, later they live in small groups or in pairs. In the course of their lives, they have three color phases. Young fishes are pure yellow, with a narrow, blue hem on the back and anus, then they get a blue-brown stripe. Adult fish are brown with bright spots. The fish, which are up to 18 cm in length, feed on stones and stones from detritus and fine algae.
