Corset animals (Loricifera) are an animal phylum that today is usually assigned to the moulting animals (Ecdysozoa). The scientific name of the taxon is derived from the Latin lorica ("armor, corset") and ferre ("carry"), so it can be translated as "corset wearer". Their closest relatives are probably the hooked weevils (Kinorhyncha) and priapsworms (Priapulida), with which they are combined in a taxon Scalidophora. |
